The Studio Museum in Harlem | Harlem, Manhattan | November 15, 2025

The Studio Museum in Harlem will open its new purpose-built home featuring extensive exhibition and public spaces designed to serve artists and the Harlem community. To mark the opening, the museum will present a comprehensive showcase of Tom Lloyd’s artwork, alongside a historical installation from its permanent collection spanning over two centuries of art by artists of African descent.

New Museum | Nolita, Manhattan | Fall 2025

The New Museum is undergoing a 60,000-square-foot expansion, the first since opening its doors in 2007. The seven-story addition will double the museum’s exhibition spaces and feature a new public plaza that will be home to art installations, performances and gatherings. The museum will reopen with an OMA-designed zero-waste restaurant in 2025.

Ellis Island Museum | New York City | Mid 2026

The Ellis Island Museum is undergoing a $100 million revitalization that includes reimagined exhibitions, new theaters and major technological upgrades. Construction is underway on the Family History Center, which will be renamed the Records Discovery Center and feature a mini-theater, interactive discovery stations, temporary displays and 50% more public research stations. In addition to revitalizing the historic museum, the project will expand the Records Discovery Center, increasing the searchable records in its database from 65 million to 154 million.

The Point at Socrates Sculpture Park | Astoria, Queens | Fall 2026

Opening in time for the 40th anniversary of Socrates Sculpture Park, The Point will transform an acre at the southern tip of the park into a new civic space that unites ecological stewardship, public art and community belonging. Featuring long-term artist commissions, educational programs and a sculpture exhibition by Mark di Suvero, it will invite visitors to experience art, land and history in relationship with one another.

The People’s Theatre: Centro Cultural Inmigrante | Inwood, Manhattan | 2026

This cultural center will spotlight NYC’s immigrant communities through theater, music, dance and community events. A partnership with NYPL for the Performing Arts will provide programming throughout the season connected to its productions.

National Urban League’s Urban Civil Rights Museum | Harlem, Manhattan | 2026

The museum, which will be housed in National Urban League’s new Harlem headquarters, the Urban League Empowerment Center, will be the first in the North dedicated to the American Civil Rights Movement and one of the only museums in the nation to delve into the movement in the North.

The Hip Hop Museum | South Bronx | 2026

Located just south of Yankee Stadium, this space will pay homage to the South Bronx’s rich culture and history as the birthplace of hip-hop (see Bronx Point in the Neighborhood Investments section below.

Bill Murphy: Waterfront Tales 1975–2025 spans five decades of the Staten Island–born artist’s explorations of New York’s harbor through printmaking and drawing. Known for his affinity with the City’s ever-changing waterfront, Murphy’s work parallels that of John A. Noble in its preservation of maritime life and memory. The exhibition pairs his art with personal stories, offering both a retrospective and a vivid chronicle of New York’s shifting shorelines.

Flora Yukhnovich's Four Seasons The Frick Collection | Upper East Side, Manhattan | September 3, 2025 through March 9, 2026

Flora Yukhnovich reimagines historic styles—from Rococo to Abstract Expressionism—through contemporary abstraction. This is the first museum exhibition dedicated to the artist, activist and minister. Featuring over 75 ceramic sculptures and archival materials, it traces her four-decade career, showcasing art that embodies compassion, healing and resilience. She Sells Seashells at Alice Austen House | Rosebank, Staten Island | September 6, 2025 through February 21, 2026

Inspired by the waterside home of photographer Alice Austen and her partner Gertrude Tate, this group exhibition explores the enduring relationship between queer women and the sea. Guest curated by Gemma Rolls-Bentley, it features diverse artists who draw on themes of water, history and place, linking Austen’s American shoreline with the British coast of fossil hunter and pioneering paleontologist Mary Anning.

Ruth Asawa: A Retrospective celebrates the six-decade career of the pioneering artist, educator and civic leader, featuring more than 300 works that showcase her innovative use of materials like wire, paper and bronze. The newly restored Waldorf Astoria New York announced three new restaurants at the famed property. The new restaurants include:

  • Lex Yard Waldorf Astoria New York’s marquee restaurant will serve elevated, classic American fare with Gramercy Tavern chef Michael Anthony overseeing the kitchen.

  • Yoshoku, for guests looking for something a bit more intimate, this new restaurant is the perfect dining destination. Inspired by the pinnacle of Japanese culinary tradition, the restaurant will serve reimagined classic Japanese fare through a New York City lens. Guests can expect sushi, hot dishes and more.

Los Angeles–based fashion brand JW Pei opened the doors to their first New York flagship in the heart of Soho. The Italian fashion brand opened its first US store in the heart of New York’s shopping district. The brand is in a 19th century building and features Italian inspired interiors such as embellished tin ceilings and cast-iron columns. They’re most known for their artisanal approach and dedication to celebrating Italian craftsmanship, storytelling and design.

The Upper East Side recently welcomed Sukoshi, an Asian beauty retailer. Fishs Eddy | Dumbo, Brooklyn | October 2025

The beloved Manhattan home goods store made its way across the Brooklyn Bridge this fall. The store opened its first Brooklyn outpost in Dumbo and offers popular Fishs Eddy items including kitchenware, dinnerware and more.

Changes to MTA Fares in 2026 & OMNY Program | Citywide | Ongoing

The MTA will adjust fares and tolls in January 2026, with subway and local bus fares increasing from $2.90 to $3, express bus fares to $7.25, and commuter rail fares by 4.5%. Weekly fare caps will become permanent, capping subway and bus rides at $35 per week. Kids ages 5–17 can ride the LIRR and Metro-North for $1 under the Family Fare, even during peak hours. These updates align with the full rollout of OMNY, the tap-and-go payment system replacing the MetroCard later in 2026, now available across all subway stations, buses, the Roosevelt Island Tram, Hudson Rail Link, and AirTrain. Riders can tap to pay with an OMNY card, contactless credit or debit card, smartphone, or wearable device. Travelers can purchase a physical card at one of the many retail locations.

NYC Ferry 2-Day Unlimited Ticket | Citywide | Ongoing

NYC Ferry offers a fun, fast, and affordable way to explore New York City’s waterfront, connecting all five boroughs with 25 stops and stunning views of landmarks like the Statue of Liberty and Brooklyn Bridge. For even more flexibility, riders can purchase the new 2-Day Unlimited Ticket for $15, providing unlimited hop-on, hop-off access across all six ferry routes for 48 hours—perfect for sightseeing, spontaneous adventures, or exploring the city from a new perspective.

John F. Kennedy International Airport | Jamaica, Queens | Ongoing

The redevelopment of Terminal 6, which will occupy the site of the former Terminal 6 and Terminal 7, is scheduled to open in phases with the completion of the arrivals and departures hall and the first five gates in 2026, and an additional five gates in 2028. Construction is also underway at Terminal 1, which will become a state-of-the-art terminal with 23 gates and dining, retail, lounges and recreational space. The first gates are expected to open in 2026. In addition, JetBlue is renovating JFK’s Terminal 5 which will feature over 40 new concessions, local art, and immersive greenery, set to be fully complete by the end of 2026.

Newark Liberty International Airport | New York City Metropolitan Area | Ongoing

EWR is building a new 2.5-mile elevated rail guideway to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and ease traffic congestion. The plans include three new stations for the new AirTrain system that will align the ongoing redevelopment of Newark Liberty.

Port Authority Bus Terminal Replacement | Midtown Manhattan | 2032

The new Midtown Bus Terminal will replace the 74-year-old terminal with a world-class facility designed to meet projected 20402050 commuter growth, including a main terminal, new ramps leading directly into and out of the Lincoln Tunnel, a central main entrance, more street-level retail, public open space and a multistory indoor atrium.

Arts & Culture

The American LGBTQ+ Museum | Upper West Side, Manhattan | 2027

The New York Historical will house a museum dedicated to showcasing global, national and local LGBTQ+ history and culture. Programming is slated to open in 2027.

National Black Theatre | East Harlem, Manhattan | 2027

The National Black Theatre has embarked on a major capital redevelopment project that will transform the current property. The new multidisciplinary cultural arts facility, dedicated to promoting Black culture through theater, will be housed in 25,000 square feet of a mixed-use development.

Dominican Center for the Arts and Culture | Washington Heights & Inwood, Manhattan | Ongoing

A $12.5 million investment is bringing the first-ever Dominican Center for the Arts and Culture to upper Manhattan. Partnering with the CUNY Dominican Studies Institute, the venue will feature a museum, theater, children's library and exhibition space, along with an oral history and archives project to preserve and showcase the cultural stories of the Dominican community.

Neighborhood Investments

Bronx Point | South Bronx | Ongoing

Bronx Point is a 530,000-square-foot mixed-use development, opening in phases. The development will feature housing, retail, public space, a waterfront promenade and cultural programming including the upcoming Hip Hop Museum set to open next summer.

East Side Coastal Resiliency Project and Floating + POOL at Pier 35 | Lower East Side, Manhattan | 20227

NYC is opening a filtered floating pool at Pier 35, as part of a $1.4 billion revitalization of the waterfront from East 25th Street to Montgomery Street. The upgrades include reconstructed recreation fields, playgrounds, a new water play area, an amphitheater, and improved access with a rebuilt Corlears Hook Bridge and enhanced bikeways.

Gansevoort Square | Meatpacking District, Manhattan | Ongoing

Gansevoort Square, on Little West 12th Street between Washington Street and Tenth Avenue, is expected to create affordable housing, expand the Whitney Museum with new facilities, improve operations for the High Line and provide a new 11,200-square-foot open space to enhance the neighborhood.

Fifth Avenue Expansion | Midtown Manhattan | Ongoing

New York City is investing over $400 million—including an additional $250 million—to fully fund the transformation of Fifth Avenue between Bryant Park and Central Park into a pedestrian-friendly boulevard with wider sidewalks, shorter crossings, improved lighting, and increased greenery for a safer and more enjoyable experience. This historic redesign will nearly double sidewalk widths, reduce traffic lanes from five to three, add more than 230 new trees and expanded public spaces, and is projected to pay for itself within five years through increased economic activity and job creation.

New York City Football Club Stadium | Willets Point, Queens | 2027

NYCFC is building the City’s first professional soccer stadium, Etihad Park, which will be operational by the 2027 MLS season. The Willets Point project will have 25,000 seats and 40,000 square feet of public space in addition to a new public school and 2,500 affordable homes built for the community. The project will add an estimated 16,000 jobs and $6 billion to the City’s economy.

Arthur Ashe Stadium Renovation| Flushing, Queens | 2027

The USTA is self-funding $800 million—the largest single investment in US Open history—to reimagine Arthur Ashe Stadium and build a state-of-the-art $250 million Player Performance Center. This three-phase transformation, to be completed by the 2027 US Open, will include a dramatic new Grand Entrance, expanded concourses, upgraded dining and hospitality spaces, additional courtside seating, and a luxury-focused redesign, while giving players top-tier training, wellness and lounge facilities—ensuring uninterrupted fan access and tournament play during construction.

North Shore of Staten Island Action Plan | Staten Island | 2027

Staten Island’s North Shore is undergoing a major public transformation, with over $400 million in city investment to create a two-mile, continuous, publicly accessible waterfront esplanade from St. George to Stapleton by 2027. This revitalization will feature open spaces, bike infrastructure, restored shoreline access and public art installations. Projects underway include the construction of a new recreation center, rehabilitation of Pier 1, shoreline restoration at the Bank Street Site, and upgrades to the Staten Island Ferry Terminal to improve pedestrian and bike connectivity. SIUH Community Park, a 7,000-seat stadium, is also receiving $9 million in capital improvements to support expanded programming.
