NEW YORK CITY (September 1, 2026)— In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, New York City Tourism + Conventions, New York City’s official destination marketing organization and convention and visitors bureau, invites New Yorkers and visitors to experience Hispanic and Latino culture across all five boroughs through nearly 30 participating venues, events and experiences.

From Cuban dance and salsa to Latin jazz, Spanish-language theater, Mexican traditions, Puerto Rican history, Colombian rock, Oaxacan music, Pan-Latin cuisine and community celebrations, this year’s programming showcases the breadth of Hispanic and Latino influences woven into New York City’s cultural identity.

Programming featured in NYC Tourism + Conventions’ 2026 roundup spans Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and Staten Island, with offerings across performing arts, museums and cultural institutions, live music, festivals and gastronomy, restaurants, tours, family programming, immersive attractions, hotels and community celebrations.

Repertorio Español

Event: 30TH ANNIVERSARY OF 'LA GRINGA'

Celebrating its 30th anniversary, La Gringa returns to Repertorio Español as one of New York City’s most enduring Latino theatrical works. Written by Carmen Rivera, the Obie Award-winning production premiered at Repertorio in 1996 and has since welcomed more than 150,000 theatergoers, earning the distinction of being the longest-running Off-Broadway Spanish-language play in New York theater history.

The story follows María Elena, a New Yorker who travels to Puerto Rico for the first time in search of her roots, setting off a heartfelt and humorous exploration of identity, heritage and belonging. To commemorate three decades of cultural impact, Repertorio Español is expanding the production’s 2026 programming with additional weekend performances and special community events at its historic Gramercy venue.

Celebrating more than six decades of music in New York City, New Swing Sextet brings its signature sound to the dance floor at ¡VAYA! The group first performed on a New York stage at the 1965 World’s Fair and became known for its distinctive blend of Latin jazz, pop and salsa, as well as its contributions to boogaloo, the genre born in New York City. After recording four albums for Cotique Records and later reuniting following a 25-year hiatus, the group released new music including the Grammy-nominated Back on the Streets through Fania in 2008. Today, New Swing Sextet continues to share its classic New York sound with new generations through vibrant percussion, vibraphone, harmonies and irresistible rhythms.
